Final Statement

I went to MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum in NYC during the Thanksgiving. The art works there are extremely famous. Among thousands of paintings there, which impressed me most is Monet’s Water Lily and Edvard Munch’s The Scream. I took many photos by my iphone to record them. When I took the picture of Water Lily, I found it was interesting to see the painting in different angles.

I firstly decided to make a E-journal with those pictures. However, I want to have background music and the different transitions between the different photos to show the trends. What’s more, I also want to change the original picture into some other types. So I use the media prezi to finish my work.

My project can be divided into three parts.

The first part is a general video. I used many photos I took in the museum and use different angels and transitions. For instance, I use the transition of water wave to show the beauty of water lily.

The second part is about Water Lily. I magnified my favorite parts to share with others. The picture is made from three different Water Lily. The use of light and shade is so interesting, and I use a wavy line to divide them to show the softness and beauty of the water lily. And I choose these three photos because they are in different tones. For me, it may show the various scene of water lily in different time.

The third part is some changes of The Scream. It was in MOMA when I came there. It was a colorful painting and I saw a black and white version of it. So I want to change it to a pencil sketch type to see if it may cause some new feeling. The top two pictures in my project are the original ones. The other three are my projects.

The process of making video is interesting. What’s more, a prefect song is added. And the project helps me to record my understanding of these art works.

Failure Paper

I should say that my biggest failure this semester is the difficult of understand the video in the class and finish the blog responses. As a second language student, I feel it is difficult for me to understand some of the videos in the class and sometimes I may distract. And some blogs have many new words for me，so I sometimes skip the difficult parts.

Later, I found the videos introduce different artists and their minds are very interesting. Although I may not understand some words, the image helps me understand them well. And some blogs leads to my deep thinking. So I think I should never give up and try my best to improve my English. If I insist for a long time, I can gain much from the various videos and blogs.

The biggest success for me is a different way of thinking. I always remember one work to ask us shooting in an ant’s view. Before that, I never think about changing the view when I take pictures. After this work, I always think about changing a way of thinking to finish a different work or changing a way of shooting to get a fun photo. And the statement paper also helps me conclude my way of thinking. It is an important tool which helps me conclude my thoughts.

When we meet some problem, we may try to use a different way. Now, I always use an animal’s view to take picture or make video. Just as my MP4, I used the sounds of my friends and make them rhythmed. It is an interesting skill for me to do various job.

If I can redo one project, I may choose MP2. Although it was my favorite project, I have many new ideas about it now. So if I have the chance, I am willing to make it perfect.

Brainstorm for the final work

As I went to NYC during Thanksgiving and I was very interested in the art works in MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have been to MOMA before and the series of Water Lilies by Monet are my favorite. And I want to combine the series of Water Lilies in MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art which impressed me most. What's more, I saw many other paintings and creative works which cause my associations. And The Starry Night in MOMA is also attractive. 

What I want to do is organize them in a different order. It might be organized from my favorite art works to my unlike ones or from a new order of how I think the art works should be put. And I also want to share my personal understand of those art works.

I choose to use the E-journal or some other medium which can make my project move and be more vivid. And I would like my final work to record my traveling to the two museums and my feeling to the art works. If I come to those museum again, I can add my new understand or see the changing of my perspective of views. Or if I see the other painting of Monet's Water Lilies in other museum, I can add it in my project to make it more completed.

My word: to spill & to bundle 

Recently, I begin to think about losing weight so I have to force myself to eat more vegetables which I don't like. I wanted to change a way of the combination of the food which may make me feel fresher about the food I eat every day. So the items I choose come from my meal such as white rice, tomatoes, onion and broccoli. For me, these things are very normal and I have them almost every day, especially white rice. I try to use the vegetables and rice to make a smile to help myself keep a good mood although I have to go on a diet and say goodbye to my favorite sweet food and meat.

My words are to spill and to bundle. I took these material out from my different meal firstly as the word to spill. Then I use them together to make a new pattern as the word to bundle. So I firstly put the write rice as a circle. And then I choose two small tomatoes as the smiling eyes and a piece of onion as the smiling mouth. I feel that the smiling face is similar to a snowman. At last, I use to broccolis to make a pretty bows to it and make it vivid. I feel happy and more appetizing after I make my own dish. I might keep a balanced diet if I can have such an interesting vegan meal every day. It makes me keep smiling after the meal as I am energetic not only from the meal, but the happiness it brings to me. It's very simple but amazing. For me, people may sometimes be touched by their own ideas. And the words to spill and to bundle mean a to break the original order of the things and organize them in a total new way. It's very creative and interesting for me.

Carver Cathedral

In the article, the author tells a story about a blind and him. At the beginning of the story, we can feel that the blind man is not welcomed by the author as he never see the blind man before. And the blind man is the friend of the author's wife and we can know that he is a kind man and very clever. The most interesting part of the story is their interaction when they are watching TV. Although the author can see and understand everything in the TV, he find something is difficult to convey to the blind man by words. And the blind man finally tells him to draw a picture to explain them. It is another way of express except words.

For me, sometimes, we can feel the world through image, sound or touch. There are many ways to help us understand one thing. So just try something or think about one thing in a different way.

Wallace This is Water

This article is about the commencement given to the to the graduates. In the speech, the part impressed me most is the example of two guys' talking in a bar. Although they experienced the same thing totally, their feelings are different. It may depends on their pervious experiences and their ways of thinking. Just as a same picture of the sun over the sea, someone will think that is sunrise, but others may think that is sunset. It show our different attitudes for the same thing. Actually, the perspective of view towards one issue is very improtant to us. If we become more positive, the problem may become easily solved. And if we become more logical and clam but not radical, the result may become much better. Sometimes, if we change a way of thinking, the success may arrive.

This video and sounds is an interesting record of my friends. When I first thought about it, I found that the most familiar sounds for me is my friends' voices. We live in the same apartment house. And every time when I come to their apartment, I can hear their cheerful voices and happy laughers before I enter into their room. So after we had our meal together one day, I told them I wanted to record some voice from them. And what we said in the video is a popular Chinese kuso rap, which is made from the cutting of one character in a TV drama. Although people may not understand what do we mean, the tempo is lively and the sounds from my friends is funny. And in the middle of the video, I asked my friend Shu sing a vivid song named Levan Polkka. When I added some sounds to it, I found many interesting drumbeats. I added the different drumbeats to match up the rap and songs. It is very difficult but challenging as the tempos are always various. And at the beginning of the video, I added some sound effects of the forest. Our apartment locates near the Olentangy River, so it is quiet in the evening. I want to make a transfer from the quiet scene to the lively scene. And you may heard a strange cockcrow in the video. I just what to remind the listeners that there might be something interesting after the cockcrow. At the end of the video, I added a sound of door closing to show that the video is drawing to a close.

What's more, it is amazing that our voices are very different in the video. I can hardly recognize which one is mine and which one is my friend's. Sometimes, the sounds may be changed through the medium.

Response to Art Which Can't be Art

Sometimes, when people mentions art or art works, I always feel that they are far away from my daily life. In the article, the auther ask a question that can our daily life become a part of art. After reading the article, I belief the answer is definitely Yes. As we all know, art comes from life. Some ideas of the artists is so simple and normal. However, most people do it as a repeat movement.

According to the article, the author gives an example of brushing tooth. Before the article, I won't consider that brushing tooth is a different kind of art. We get up hurried in the morning and brush our tooth in a sleepy state. I try to observe the movement of my eyebrow and my arms and find the frequency and rhythm are amazing. I always keep the same rate when I brush my tooth and the eyebrow will move up and down freely with my different movement.

I was curious about the idea of the artists. And now I find that they have a good discovering eyes. And I remember the photo I took in the view of a bird or ant. It might be my discover of life and art.

Response to Wexner Center

I went to the Wexner Center to see the exhibition of Annie Leibovitz. There were many interesting photos taken by her. Most of her pictures are focus on portraits such as the politicians, the stars and someone I couldn't call the name. What impressed me most is the different expressions of the individuals. President Obama and his wife were smiling confidently in the photos, while on the other side of the wall, Queen Elizabeth was standing there gracefully and seriously in the photo.

And my favourite photo there is the one called Soledad Prison which was took at the Chritsmas Day. Although the photo is a black-and-white photo, I could imagine the rain drop fall on people's clothes and hair. However, nobody cares that as there all kissing or hugging their lovers and families. It might be a precious chance for them to meet each other. The conflict at that moment between the prison and the warm scene gave me the more intensive feeling about love. I stood at that photo for a very long time. I thought I would miss my families much after that. In fact, I felt that my homesickness was crued a little. I don't know why. But I should see sometimes art has its own magic to me. And this experience is so meaningful to me.

My sunglasses: I love it, especially in my summer term here to protect myself from the sunshine. Maybe most Asian don't like the sunshine in the summer and we think skin whitening is very important to women. What's more, it can not only protects me from sunshine but looks very cool. Nowaday, the sunglassed is considered to be one part of the fashion. It is now become my necessary accessory.( cool accessory )

My ipad: Ipad is useful to me as sometimes bring a computer is so heavy for me. I usually use it to see the slides of the course in my class. To be honest, ipad is very convenience, light and handy. What's more, using the interesting APP or watching a movie is a good way for me and my friends to kill time when we are waiting for someone or something.( multifunction electronics )

My iphone: I should say I may have the mobile phone addiction. I remeber one day I leave my Iphone at home and I felt so nervous and I even wanted to go home to take it. And I found many friends of mine have the same problem. It seems that we can not live without our phones. It may be ridiculous to somebody. For me, every morning, I used the alarm in my phone to help me wake up. Then I may see the whether from the app of the phone. When I am waiting for the bus at the bus stop, I usually chat with my friend or twitter to kill time. Meanwhile, I will use to google map in my phone to see if the bus is coming soon or not. What's more, the phone is also my camera, my notebook, my dictionary and the large number of apps make my daily life much more convenience than before. I love it. ( essential tool ) 



My pencil case: It is good for me to hold my pencil, eraser and eyedrops. And I love the color and the cat logo so much. Orange gives me more energy and make me fell warm and happy.  Someone tell me that it looks like a smartcover for ipad. It's so interesting. （ a good humor ）

My eyedrops: As I use the contact lens everyday, I need the eyedrops to keep my eyes comfortable. It helps me protect my eyes. Sometimes, I feel it is a good way to release the pressure and refresh myself between the coures. It is cool and refreshing when dropped in my eyes. I love this feeling, which make me much relax. ( moisture drops

For me, these things may show that I like lovely things and warm color. As you see, the pencial case and the cover of my iphone are all in orange. I find I love orange so much and I haven't notice that before. I thought I love green or blue much. How interesting it is! And I also notice that the mobile phone becomes such a necesssary things to my life. And I should say that I always take many snakes to school as I have an early class every day. I always forget my breakfast. So that might not show in my pictures.

On my first day to school, I used the map of my iphone to take me to the classroom. Although I used the GPS, I found it difficult to find the way as the campus is so big . Thanks to my friend I met that day, he led me to the classroom. And it spent me lots of time to know the bus route.  I usually walk to school at that time. Sometimes I took the map of the campus and asked the others how to go to the class. After about two weeks, I began to be familiar with the buildings and classrooms in the campus. I always lose my way to school and take the wrong bus. After I almost took all the bus route by mistake, I begin to know well about all the bus in the campus. And now I live off-campus. I usually take NO.2 bus to school. The bus drive along the high street and it is difficult for me to get lost.

I usually go to school by bus. Firstly, I will go across the giant eagle and the smell of food always make me hungery. I love to try different food, so I used my camera to document many cafes and restaurants. There are the mediterranean cafe, the music cafe, the Japanese food, the American food. And there's also the chinese market which gives me the taste of home. And when I used the google map to see the street view along high street, I found that there were many interesting shops and various cafe and restaurant which seem to be delicious. I think I missed a lots of delicious here and I wii definitely try them later.

Responce to Cardiff, Miller and Power of Sound

The authour tells the stories between a couple Cardiff and Miller, who connected sound and art together and do all their art works together. Some of their works are so impressed to me. And what impressed me most is their attitude to life and art. I think they always enjoy the time together with their art and the beautiful sound they caught. In the modern word, people seem to be busy about work and life. For me, I always busy in the courses and think about doing housework and cooking in the time remaing as I live along in the apartment. Sometimes, refreshing myself and listening to some music is my best choice. Now, I am sitting at the window, reading the story from other and typing my feelings. I love the Dark Pool. It lead me to a mysterious world with old sound and feeling.

Although I love this article, the part of a live record of forest. To me the sound of forest is normal to every.

When I first read the story, I was a little confused about what the author what to convey by his experience as he is not an artist and knows a little professional knowledge about art.

I think the author tells his story in a very humorous way. And it shows in the words between his wife and him. Firstly, he worked in a club and his wife might not like this job as he hardly had time to see his children in the morning. What' more, his wife what him to have a good future, such as being an accounter or running a DIY shop. And the anthor didn't like these jobs.As we know, sometimes the pressure comes from our relatives and friends. They always what us do what they love. At last, the auther get a job in the gallery.

I think he was impatient of this job at the begining. And his attitudes towards HippleJesus changed a lot from with the change of his innermost being and the surrounding people. After talking with some strangers in the gallery, he began to think that the picture is not stupid as he stood with it all day which helped him think deeply. To me, we should understand one unfamiliar people or thing through our eyes and ears, but not others' comments. We should trust our feeling although it is different from the majority of people, especially in art areas. The eyes of a thousand individuals have a thousand Hamlet. And I also learn that do not draw too firm a conclusion before you try to know that in many ways.

It was extremely interesting for me to take these ten photos. The same thing as before was that I found many scenery when I took the photo and enjoyed the experience. And the difference was now I had some requirements such as use another view as a bird or ant. For me, the second experience was more enjoyable as I changed many ways to meet the requirements. And I love the photo I took from the point of view of a bird and ant. As I am in the view of ant, I considered myself a small ant. So I adjusted the shooting angle to make myself like the ant and zoomed in. When it comes to the bird's view, I thought to take a photo of their home. The nest in the tree may be what the bird will see in their view. So I also zoomed in and looked up to the nest. I wanted to convey that the birds find some food on the ground and looked up to go back home.

Response to the Walker and Barrett articles

Walker Big Idea

This article talks about the big idea of the artmaking. It compares big idea with subject matter and theme. To some degree, they are not the same thing as subject matter is the topic while big idea is the concepts. And I also remeber the vedio about the artist who use her hair to draw something on the ground. It was amazing for me at first. I thought she was crazy and that was not art for me. However, after her talking about her point of views, I could understand her better. Some artists' work may not be accepted at that time, but they may be understood well in the future. That's an interesting thing.

As I learn the definition of big idea and subject matter first, I find it difficult to distinguish. In my opinion, the big idea is more about the innermost being and the subject matter is more about what we can see about the artworking.

 

Barrett Visual Culture 

Nowadays, the skills of art are used in many areas, such as advertisement. The article talks about the distinction between denotations and connotations. The part of the article which interested me most is the application of denotations and connotations in the ad. In the example, the connotations express two values to the custom. The first one is freshness and the second one is goodness for cooking. Not only the variety of object but also the freshness of the vegetables all draw the customers' attention. They all show the connotation of the ad. The interpertion of the message is also important for us as we would like to buy or wear the things which we can understand better.

I think the article is easy to understand and I haven't find the difficult now.

Kidd The Cheese Monkeys Excerpt

The way we think, see, write obeys the order that is from left to right. From the article, we may know that this is important to the western world. As a Chinese, I know that in the old time, Chinese usually read and write from right to left. However, nowadays, the order of think or see is similar with the western world. I think it shows the different way of thinking and the different respect of viewing a problem.

I have a difficulty in understanding In Front Of and In Back Of. As far as I am concerned, it always depends on the space, the color of the items and other aspects but not only the ocation.

Hickey The Heresy of Zone Defense 

As I know a little about the basketball, I am not a big fan of the basketball. However, almost all of my friends love it so much. After reading this article, I understand a lot of the improvement of the rules, which help the game become more fair. In my opinions, everything needs to be improve as the basketball rules. As basketball has the advanced rules and outstanding look and feel, it becomes such a popular sports among people all over the world.

As I am not a big fan of basketball, I am a little confused about the first several paragraphs. Sometimes it is really hard for me to image the action of the players.

Weschler Uncanny Valley 

Actually, I love anime very much. The article tells me how difficult and complex it is to model the characters well, especiall making a face alive. As we know, the movement of face represents our innermost being. It is the art to use the technology to make the characters so real, but not too real I mean. So it is very interesting to me.

I don't really understand why the characters are looked too real in the article. I always think it is better to look as real as possible to be close to our real life. But actually, that is not the turth.
